The only person who has the power to free the people is Prince Toadstool who is captured and imprisoned in a faraway castle.
Mario, a man of courage and great determination, hears about the fate of the Mushroom people and gathers his courage to free prince Toadstool and the Mushroom people from the control of evil Bowser.
